The Real Reason The Yankees Didn’t Make The Playoffs
In the post-Mitchell Report Era, there was a drop off of approximately two hundred runs in Yankee offense. Sorry Hank, it wasn’t the injuries.

No one else is going to say it. At least not until next season. But we’ve seen enough to know that the Girardi Era just isn’t going to work. We’ve seen enough to know that Girardi’s militant training did nothing for this group. Aside from inciting a few brawls, the fiery personality did nothing to fire up this team. In fact, they looked more dead than ever. He lost the young players in the clubhouse and although no one is saying it outright, we doubt he ever had the veterans. His subterfuge surrounding player injuries completely lost the media. (And don’t think they won’t try to run him out of town the moment things sour next year.)
The idea that he needs time to develop as a manager might be true. But when have the Yankees ever been patient enough to let talent develop? Besides, he was already supposed to be another Mike Scioscia. He was supposed to be the brilliant tactician and game manager that Torre was not. Now, the best anyone can really say is that he managed the bullpen well. In all other facets, he over managed, over analyzed and perhaps, in the case of Rivera, overused.
Now the question is, how long until his remaining allies turn against him?
For the past week, we’ve heard nothing but how great, how hallowed, how legendary Yankee Stadium really is. Just one question: If it is truly all of these things, then why are the Yankees tearing it down?
It’s because tradition and sacred ground are no match for modern amenities and luxury suites. We can accept that. Just stop trying to sell us on all the folklore and tradition about a stadium you are freely choosing to demolish.
Wow, we didn’t realize there was a distinct area in baseball’s record books for achievements at Yankee Stadium. If we had, we would have brought our camera along too. What idiots we are. It’s a good thing that the media devoted so much coverage to this monumental achievement. Otherwise, it might have gone completely unnoticed. And what a shame that would have been.
